I am suffering from sore throat, chronic allergic rhinitis(running nose and multiple sneezes), cold intolerance and goitre since last 25 years. I am also suffering from osteoporosis, sciatica and cervical spondilitis since last 3 years. I am 44 years old woman with a 17 year old son. I have also developed irregular periods. Could PLEASE,PLEASE somebody give me a cure for AT LEAST ALLERGIC RHINITIS (which is driving me mad), if not of the other diseases. I also am intolerant to cool air, air conditioning, air coolers, ice cream, sour foods and fruits.
What are the side effects of anti histamines taken over a long period of time? What are the names of any ayurvedic or natural or herbal antihistamines available ?

I talked to a doctor at the eye, ear, nose, throat clinic in Columbia, SC and he said the side effects are minimal. This doctor will work with a gynecologist to assure the treatment modes are not counter productive. Just remember, keep up with your chart of medicines in the event doctor three is called in. But never be fooled into thinking there is a quick fix from all the cut and paste answers. This is a long term deal with no easy results.

Two books that offer good info and lots of advice from experts in the field on all the conditions you mentioned, are:
Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine (Murray & Pizzorno)
Prescription For Natural Cures ( Balch & Stengler)
Adelle Davis' book Let's Get Well is also full of excellent suggestions for most of what ails you. For Spondyltis check out The Miracle of MSM and The Aspirin Alternative.
Traditional doctors can't even keep up with the things in their own field, let alone all the accumulated wisdom of the alternative fields. There is gold in this stream bed; hope you find some! Good luck and God bless!

Have you seen an ENT regarding you rhinitis? Sometimes a nasal spray will help more than an antihistamine. Have you found out what allergies you have (allergy testing)? Do you have a post nasal drip that is causing the irritated nasopharynx?

Have you been to an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist? People with recurring rhinitis often have an obstruction in the nose, which allows for bacteria and other substances to accumulate, such as nasal polyps. If you have the polyps removed, this should help with the chronic rhinitis. There is also new surgeries to put an expander in your nose - this will assist in breathing better and allow better drainage in the nose. Often, you get sick because the nasal passages are constricted and there isn't proper drainage - so things just get blocked up and if they get blocked up long enough it will cause illness. You could also get sinus surgery to drain the sinuses but this isn't always effective.

For the sore throat, you may consider getting the tonsils removed.

allergic rhinitis is a condition which we can control with a lot of medicines, but cannot be cured; it's treated with nasal steroid sprays, antihistaminics and nasal decongestants used alone or in combination depending upon the severity of the condition and response to treatment. oral steroid tablet may be requiered for a few days in very severe cases. apart from the medical treatment, the patient may need surical treatment also if there is polyps in the nose due to the alleric rhinitis. also the person has to cahange his life styles if needed for control of dust, take steam inhalation, plenty of oral fluids and dust control measures.

sorry no cure. the only best possible way to get relief is to identify the allergens by an allergy test and then perform desensitization. this is theoritically very easy but in practical aspect, it's pretty tough. a hypersensitive iindividual might be allergic to many substances, some may be even unidentifiable.

u can try some homoeopathic medicines. there are good medicines in homoeopathy possessing significant anti-allergic action. plz consult ur nearest homoeopathic physician.

Well, if a CURE existed for any of these things, that would be lovely but as of now, we can only seek relief from the misery by treating the symptoms. I take a generic form of the 24 hr Claritin-D everyday. Be sure you get the kind with the"D" (for decongestant). If you have diabetes or high blood pressure, this may not be a good medicine for you, but otherwise, it can work wonders in bringing real relief.

If you are intolerant to cold and have a goiter, you VERY LIKELY have hypothyroidism, or low thyroid function. You should be tested by a doctor. Treating thyroid disease can make a world of difference in your allergies over a period of time, too. Thyroid and the immune system go hand in glove. People with untreated thyroid disease almost always are plagued by allergies. Over a period of months to years on thyroid medicine, you will see your allergies improve slowly but SURELY. You may always need to stay on allergy relief meds, but you will notice a big difference to your degree of sensitivity and reaction to allergens after getting on thyroid treatment. Poor thyroid function could also be affecting your periods because the thyroid can affect ALL other hormone levels. This explains also why low thyroid function can have a strong negative effect on emotions.

Your doctor will likely balk at this, but I prefer taking natural prescription thyroid medicine to the synthetic. I personally recommend Armor Thyroid.

Regardless of which prescription you decide on, let me emphasize that you must be on prescribed thyroid medicine, not over the counter thyroid support. And you must STAY ON your thyroid meds permanently or you will not see any improvement.

If your family doc does not know what tests to run for thyroid, see an Endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid.

Osteoporosis: A significant amount of REVERSAL to porous bones and greatly improved future is weight-bearing exercise. This is exercise where you bear your own weight, for example, walking. Some exercises that are good for other conditions may NOT BE WEIGHT BEARING and therefore not beneficial for reversing osteoporosis. Examples are: swimming - because the water is bearing your weight; bicycling - because the bicycle is bearing your weight. You get the idea. For osteoporosis, you need to do exercises where you bear your own weight. Walking is perfect.

Spondylitis, sciatica. Here's a great site: http://www.spondylitis.org. Meanwhile, you need serious pain relief. Celebrex is an excellent Cox-2 inhibitor and can bring a lot of relief with in hours. In addition, Darvocet or Hydrocodone may be necessary to lower your pain enough to improve your quality of life. Another big help may be Lyrica, a medicine for nerve pain caused by your sciatica. The type of doctor you need to see for this is a Rheumatologist.

    Best wishes to you.

From the Ayurvedic perspective, what you have are not different diseases, but symptoms of some serious imbalance, which progressed from one to many because it was not addressed in time. Ayurveda doesn’t treat individuals with generic medicines, the treatment depends on individual case history, nature and disease progression. The treatment besides medicines will also include cleansing processes. I do believe that much of your problems can be addressed by the system, however the treatment process and time can be prolonged. Treatment in India (important to make sure in places of repute, like for eg. Kottakkal Arya vaidya shala, Kerala) is highly recommended, but given the distance and difficulty, you might be able to locate an Ayurvedic doctor in US. But make sure to find a good practitioner, the efficacy of the systems be it ayurvedic or homeopathic, (the latter I have found significantly beneficial for certain ailments) depends on the doctor. I am not a doctor, but have considerable experience in getting treated and seeing people being treated for chronic and other ailments by both these systems and I do believe there is a fundamental disconnect in the way modern biomedicine addresses problems especially when it comes to chronic and systemic illnesses.
